GOT ANY QUESTIONS FOR ESF? SEARCH OUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS PAGE AND IF YOU CANT FIND YOUR ANSWER CONTACT US DIRECTLY

What do I do if I do not know my level or childs level?
If you click on levels at the top of the page, there are some videos and guidelines. But don't worry if you are not sure, our team of experts at ESF will assess your child upon arrival and you will be put into the most appropriate lesson.
I am going to France on a short break. Why can't I book just a 3 day Group Lesson?
Many of our schools differ in the Group and Private Lesson formats. Please fill out an enquiry form with your chosen resort listed and we will email you via your chosen resort school with answers. CLICK HERE
I do not speak French. Will I understand my Instructor?
Over 80% of our 17,000 ski instructors now speak English. At ESF we have worked hard in recent years to overcome the language barriers between ourselves and our customers. We are striving to increase this percentage even further in the next few seasons. You can ask for an English speaking instructor when making your booking. Either use our Quick Booking section at the top of every page that directs you to your chosen resort's website or fill out an enquiry form with your request details. BOOKING PAGE
What should I do if my child hates the lessons?
All children get cold, however, at ESF we ensure the thought of getting cold and missing mummy or daddy is substituted with fun games, story telling and other forms of the learning process. Probably the worse thing for a parent to do is be there when our instructors are teaching the children. If they hate the lessons please see the instructor at the end of the session to ascertain the reasons.
Can I get a refund if my child does not enjoy the lesson?
We do not tend to offer discounts if a child simply 'does not enjoy the lesson'. Our lesson plans are there for enjoyment and fun as well as educating each individual to improve technique and ability.
If you feel that your child has not enjoyed the lesson please contact your ESF office in resort.
My teenager is a good skier. What can ESF offer except skiing?
We are always improving our offers for teenagers. Each resort has their own ideas on the branding and content for new lessons and groups. In Courchevel the TOP6 and TOP8 are very popular teenage offers. In Meribel the BASE Camp course is for teenagers wanting to learn freestyle and Snow Park skills.
Check in your chosen resort for the teenage offers.
I feel I am not improving. Would a Private Lesson be more beneficial?
Private Lessons give you that added personal touch. Where, in a Group Lesson, you feel that the instructor is giving generic advice to the group, in a Private Lesson, you have the benefit of full 100% attention on just you. Go for it!
We are coming with a large group of the same experience. What should we do for lessons?
Have a party! No, seriously, at ESF we would love you to book a Group Lesson together and experience parts of the mountain that only we can show you. You could also book one of our instructors for the whole day/week. All to yourselves! Experience the Freedom properly!
What are the benefit of Private lessons?
More close inspection of your level and a more personal approach to improving your technique and overall ability.
Will I get my badge at the end of the week?
Of course. Please see your (our your childs) instructor on the penultimate day of your stay to ensure you do not miss out on the badge giving.
Do I get a certificate to show what class or level I have achieved?
At ESF we do not give out certificates, however, you will receive an official and approved ESF badge for the level/class you have achieved. Not many people (in the grand scheme of things) have got one of the ESF badges. Keep it safe!
What is Boarder Cross?
Madness! No, seriously, try Boarder Cross here.
Should I learn on a dry slope in Britain first?
It is always a good idea to experience the feel of ski boots and skis (or a snowboard!) on your feet before you embark on a winter sports holiday. At ESF we think it no harm in you learning on a dry ski slope before you travel. Tweet us at @UKesf to tell us about your experience.
If I have a problem with an instructor can I swap?
Being the UK Business Manager, and totally British, I fully understand the cross cultural differences we Brits sometimes experience sometimes, however, give our girls and guys a chance before you march toward the ESF office with a complaint, unless, of course, it is a serious breach of our strict professional policy.
If I get hurt and cannot ski, am I eligible for a refund?
We suggest you either buy our Carre Neige insurance (Savoie area only) or purchase your own insurance before you travel. If you do not have insurance that covers the non fulfilment of lessons, then you are likely to lose your money. Please report to your chosen ESF office if this unfortunate situation occurs.
My child is shy. Will they be okay on a Group Lesson still?
If your child is a shy or introvert you do not need to worry. Our instructors are trained to deal with most personality traits. If you are overly worried, please see the ESF office before your lessons begin.
Are the carers/instructors in Kindergarden fully qualified to look after young children?
Of course. Each instructor trains hard for years to become an instructor and the first test is to learn how they can influence and teach young children to ski. We strongly believe that your child will be safe and enjoy the time spent in Kindergarden with ESF.
My child has learning difficulties. Do you have a specialists that can help teach?
We have many specialist instructors across the Alps. Please refer to your chosen ESF school in resort or fill out the enquiry form on this website.
I am a beginner. Should I buy a ski pass beforehand?
Many of our schools offer a package for lessons with ski passes, however, if you are a beginner, please contact the school in resort as you will probably not require a ski pass until requested to do so.
Am I insured with ESF? Do I need to get holiday Insurance?
Not unless you purchase the Carre Neige from us (Savoie region only). We would suggest that holiday insurance is also organised.
Can I Specify a time for a Private lesson?
All lessons are scheduled by the individual ESF ski school. This is due to several reasons like ski lift times, holidays. instructor schedules and other reasons. Please refer to your chosen ESF ski school in resort for more info.
What is Hire an Instructor?
Unlike a Private Lesson, our Hire an Instructor option is simply just that! If you want an instructor to take you all over the mountain, teach you new techniques and be with you for the entire period,
If the weather is really bad will my lesson be cancelled? Will I get a refund?
It takes really bad weather to stop our instructors from venturing out. Unless your safety is in question our lessons will always take place. If cancelled for severe weather please visit your chosen ESF ski school in resort.
What should I do if I am late for my Group Lesson and everyone has gone?
Do not try and second guess where your instructor is or has gone. Visit the nearest ESF office and explain to the office staff. Our biggest advice would be, whatever party or Apres' Ski session you have had the previous night, do not be late!
Does ESF offer activities for non-skiers?
At ESF we offer many activities that not for the traditional skier or snowboarder. Walking (ShoeShoes) is a popular non-ski pastime, however, we do not organise bowling or ice skating!!!!
Can I book a specific instructor?
If you have had a good experience with one of our instructors, please, by all means, ask our office in resort if you could have him or her again. We love being loved!
What age can I bring my children skiing?
We would recommend the age of 3 is a good starting point to learn to ski, however, our nursery takes babies from new born upwards.
How do I know where to meet my instructor?
You will get a confirmation from the school of your choice before you arrive, however, if you fail to receive this information please contact the ESF office in resort when you arrive quoting your reference number and details.
Do I need to drop my teenagers off to lessons and sign them in or can they bring themselves?
We think they are old enough to find the meeting point every morning, however, if you do have a lazy teenager that likes the night life and is particularly bad at arising from his/her slumber, please bring them along! You do not need to sign anyone in or out. This is fun school not actual school!
How do I know what level my instructor is?
Each instructor will have a certain level of qualification that he or she, has or is, working toward. You will find our instructors are all striving to achieve more in the world of instruction and teaching. We suggest you ask at the office if you feel you have too.
Can I book my lessons for next year?
Of course. Just leave your name at the ESF office in resort and they will note your wishes for the following year.
Do you offer multi lingual instructors?
We do. 80% of our instructors speak English, however, we do have several instructors that speak multi languages. Please contact the ESF Ski School in your chosen resort to enquire on availability.
What happens if the weather changes and you get stuck on the mountains?
Very rarely has anyone got stuck on the mountains after the lift s have closed. The resorts and ESF are very aware of time and we would not take you to areas that are potentially hotspots if the weather changes.
Can I watch my childs lessons?
We would advise you to wear a false nose and moustache if you would like to watch as, believe us, your children will learn quicker if they know mum or dad is not around.
Do I have to wear a helmet?
Although it not compulsory (yet) in France to wear a helmet we strongly suggest that everyone wears a helmet. Adults and children.
If I have been on a dry slope in the UK can I choose my level?
No, let us decide whether the dry slope has been kind or not to you.
Does my child need to take a packed lunch?
We offer great packages that include lunch with the instructor.
When I book online will I get an immediate confirmation email?
Each school is different in the way they react to confirmations. The switched on schools will send you a confirmation almost immediately, however, some of the older and more traditional ones will wait until after lunch!
What do I do if there is not online booking facilities?
Call the number of the school on the school page or call us here at the UK office of ESF. You will be able to email us via the Enquiry Form.
Do I have to be fit to ski?
Healthy to a level you are comfortable with. Not necessarily fit.
Does the price of a lesson change out of school holidays?
All school holidays change the prices of lessons due to demand. If you are travelling without children then the better deals are in the quieter times of January and early March.
If I am ill, can I get a refund?
If you have your own insurance or you have enquired and subsequently paid for Carre Neige in the Savoie region you will be able to obtain a form to reimburse you for lost monies.
How many people in the average Group Lesson?
We normally work a ratio between 2 to 8, however, in busy periods you may have up to 10 people to one instructor.
Did we answer you questions? if not email us!
