What are the esf tests for?
Created by esf, the tests allow everyone to progress step by step in their practice of snow sports.
On the basis of precise technical criteria, our esf instructors validate with you or your child, the achievements and points to improve in their practice of Nordic skiing.
Children's Nordic tests
Ourson
Beginner class - Preparation of Ourson and the discovery of balancing.
Both skating and classic cross country styles:
- Your child will be able to move on level ground.
- Your child will be able to climb a downward slope gently sloping.
- Your child will be able to do a snowplough in very easy snow conditions.
Flocon
Beginner class - Flocon preparation including motor skills positioning
Both skating and classic cross country styles:
- Your child will be able to move on a slightly descending ground in simultaneous pushes.
- Your child will be able to do a staircase climb.
- Your child will be able to slow down their speed on a downhill slope with a slid snowplough
Ist Star
Class 1 - 1st degree preparation including motor positioning
In the skating sector:
- Your child will be able to skate without the poles on slippery ground.
In the classic sector:
- Your child will be able to cross an uphill slope with a slippery step.
In the skating sector and the classic sector:
- Your chid will be doing a 1st degree descent.
- Your child will be doing snowplough turns.
2nd Star
In the skating sector:
In the classic sector:
- Your child will be able to do skater steps with poles on slippery ground.
In the classic sector:
- Your child will be able to move in a slid step and in step of one on varied terrain.
In the skating sector and the classic sector:
- Your child will make a direct trace on the crossing and follow up with twisting steps.
- Your child will be able to negotiate dips and bumps in descent.
3rd Star
In the skating sector:
- Your child will move in 2-stroke skater steps on flat ground.
- Your child will be able to do ½ skater and skater steps on level ground.
In the classic sector:
- Your child will move in alternating steps on flat ground.
- Your child will be able to perform one-step and alternate-step sequences.
In the skating sector and the classic sector:
- Your child will be able to do six to seven elementary turns.
Bronze Star
Class 3 and expert - Bronze star preparation including: mastery of fundamentals and efficiency
In the skating sector:
- Your child will do 1-stroke skater steps.
In the classic sector:
- Your child will alternate uphill.
In the skating sector and the classic sector:
- Your child will be capable of taking backward turning steps.
- Your child will negotiate parallel ski turns.
Gold Star
Expert class - Gold star preparation, mastery of fundamentals, efficiency
In the skating sector:
- Your child will be able to do a nordic skier-cross type course allowing the achievement of all the movements of the technical repertoire of skating.
In the classic sector:
- Your child will be able to do a nordic skier-cross type course allowing the realisation of all the movements of the technical repertoire of the classic.
